John Tucker, Service Reception Manager, retires after 50 years at Platts Motor Company Ltd.

John Tucker joined Platts Motor Company in 1962 as an Apprentice and retired as Service Reception Manager on February 17th 2012, a total of 50 years service.

John joined Platts Garage, as it was then known, in 1962 at the age of 15 as an Apprentice. At the time Platts Garage was a dealership for Austin, Morris, Rover and MG.

He qualified as a Technician in 1965, and progressed to the level of Senior Technician. In the 1980’s he transferred from the workshop floor to Service Reception.

When Platts became a Ford Main Dealer John was promoted to Workshop Controller, a role he held for 25 years. During his tenure as Workshop Controller the dealership won a number of Ford Customer Satisfaction Awards.

Tim Platt, Managing Director of Platts Motor Company said “John retiring is the end of an era; it is rare these days for an employee to show such loyalty to one company, he will be sorely missed by his colleagues and customers alike, his product knowledge and experience are unparalleled. He will be impossible to replace. However, after 50 years of loyal service and hard work he deserves a well earned retirement. We thank him for his years of hard work and wish him the very best for the future”.

John Tucker said “I have worked with 3 generations of the Platt family and I’m proud to have been part of a real family business, which has remained true to its values even though everything else has changed so much. 50 years has passed so quickly, I can hardly believe it. I will miss chatting with customers and work colleagues, however they haven’t got rid of me completely as I will pop in from time to time to say hello”.
